Brand Narrative for Ten Miles to Paris

Ten Miles to Paris is a clothing designer in Los Angeles, California which took its namesake from a powerful true family story. My aim was to tell that origin story in a way that did double duty as a powerful brand narrative.

 

Ten Miles to Paris has nothing and everything to do with Paris.

A certain boy and girl fell in love. The year was 1934, the city was Berlin. The boy had arrived with a case full of schoolboy dreams to become a man of high finance. Imagine his surprise when his heart became rich instead—A girl and a boy, hand in hand. Nothing could touch their love. War could touch their love. Clouds rolled like tanks over the sky.

“A great hostility is coming,” their family warned, “You must leave.”

The boy and girl turned their pockets inside out, but found only love. Their families turned hearts inside out and stopped at nothing until a way had been made. Germany to Switzerland to France to Spain to Portugal to the USA. It was a panicked two-year dead sprint, falling asleep to the same headaches and waking to the spectacle of a different nightmare. Nothing was certain. Everything was in doubt. The stories would fill your heart with thunder and sadness. The sea rose and fell like a stretcher beneath them.

When the man and woman arrived at the end of their journey in the port of New York, The man turned to her and said, “Only ten miles to Paris darling. We made it.”

Surely he has lost his mind, the woman thought. She began crying. “This is the USA not Paris,” she said.

“USA is the new Paris,” the man said.

The Ten Miles to Paris collection is an ode to courageous movement, the spirit of displaced adventure, and the chasing of mislabeled dreams.
